Liftoff POS
Switching POS systems
Keep the business running while changing POS. Plan data, hardware, staff training and payment closeout before choosing a launch date.
Decide what moves—and what does not
Export your menu or inventory, prices, taxes, employee roles and customer records where your current system permits it. Historical transactions, stored payment tokens, loyalty points and gift-card balances may not transfer. Confirm export rights and migration support before canceling.
- Restaurants: menus, modifiers, courses, guest counts, tables and tabs.
- Retail: SKUs, variants, barcodes, vendors, stock counts and return policies.
- Services: appointments, deposits, invoices and recurring payment consent.
Build the operational checklist
Map receipt printers, cash drawers, scanners and kitchen printers or KDS to supported devices. Review online ordering, delivery channels, accounting, gift cards and employee permissions. Reusing a printer or terminal requires confirmed compatibility—not just a matching cable.
Train around real scenarios
Have employees practice a normal sale and the exceptions: a split check, wrong item, declined card, void, refund, gift card or offline interruption. Decide who can change prices, issue refunds and access reports. Training and installation assistance are available according to project scope.
Go live with a fallback
Choose a manageable service window, complete a test closeout and verify deposits. Keep the old account available for refunds and disputes when needed; ask the provider how long it should remain open. Do not assume a new processor eliminates obligations under the old agreement.
Common merchant questions
Can existing gift cards move?
Sometimes, but balance exports, card formats and provider agreements determine what is possible. Plan gift-card reconciliation before launch.
Can Liftoff set up menus and inventory?
Discuss item imports, menu building, employee accounts and training during consultation. Available assistance and charges vary by program and project scope.
